Our sad last session of Basketball

What a windy start to the ending of our basketball lessons for the year. We were back with out old coach Steph. To start off our basketball lesson we did some warm up sprints and then started off with a short simple game. We were divided into 2 groups and had to line up behind the green cone, once coach Steph threw the bell she shouted out a number at the same time and that is the amount of people that plays, then shoot.

The hard bit of the game was shooting for me personally pressures the main problem it’s like everyone's counting on you to get a hoop but what if you don’t and you’ll be just the person that can’t shoot, so then that’s why i’m so far away of shooting but at the same time practice makes perfect. It was down to the last game and all 5 front players zoomed in to the ball and tried to shoot without the other team defending real good. But sadly the other team lost to non bibs and it was time to play real basketball.

5 people at a time to verse the others at playing it. I'd rather be the defender defending our goal shooter or defending the opponents g.s. The last game was pretty intense because all good players were in it and it was really hard to tell who was gonna win. But at the end I had no clue who won to be honest but I know that it was a good game, there were nice defending and the goal shooter was on fire like bolt. Out of all of this experience I mostly enjoyed learning the new tricks and learning new skills of dribbling.

Our vivacious Auckland zoo trip

On the 4th of April 2014 rooms 10,9 and 7 went to the Auckland Zoo to discover new information about Native birds, trees and endangered animals. The purpose of going to the Auckland zoo was because we were studying about Survival In The Wild.
There were 3 different lecturers waiting for us to take us around the zoo to explore about native birds.

We were escorted to an area that was decorated with information and pictures about insects and birds. First we were with John. John took us in a humongous sort of cage with a native bird called Kea in it. John words were “If you keep still and make no sudden noise then the Kea will come out from it’s hiding place”. Once we went in there they practically had everything that they would have out in the wild, they had a waterfall running down huge volcanic rocks, plants and bushes planted around their little pond and a lot of native unique trees. A Kea’s species is a Parrot it is greenish brownish and has a frightening beak. The Kea’s beak is like a curved long beak scary as a group of orangutans coming to destroy you.
After we explored around the Kea’s territory we were then with Lora learning about all the native birds that were in the zoo, that included Kea,Kaka, Fantails,Tui,Kakapo,Pukeko and many more that I don’t know the name of. This cage was improved a lot with trees like Nikau tree,Palm trees and many other trees. Kaka birds are actually nocturnal and when they poop a big seed intends to fall out and is poisonous to a human if they eat it. There were levels of stairs that had information about a bird or so and we sure did discuss about it, we even heard a Kaka bird talk or make noise.
After learning about Native birds in one huge net we were with Richard learning about Owls,Kiwi, eels and how a moth intends to live in an unnamed type of tree for 7 years. We first learnt about the owl an, interesting fact about it was that owls fly smoothly in the wind  and when it hunts it’s predator it doesn't even hear it coming and then, kills the moth in a quarter of a second. A moth can live in a tree for 7 years and they eat the tree to make a hole every time they are hungry, once the 7 years are up then they’ll come out and after 24 hours they will eventually die. Then we went into the Kiwi enclosure, it was very dark and had no light. Our lecturer then said,” Look closely to the background so that your eyes can adjust to the dark”
.Did you know that the Kiwi is close to being instinct? We spotted a kiwi at the corner of it’s territory eating something I couldn't see. After we explored the Kiwi enclosure it was time for morning tea.

The rest of our time at the zoo was exploring endangered animals Finally we first looked at the alligators and it was pretty boring because they just laid there doing nothing, just getting  burnt in the sun. Next we saw some giraffes, zebras, red panda, baboon, orangutan, rhino, cheetah and many more interesting animals.

I had a lot of fun. I hope to go there again and learn more remarkable information about the endangered animals caged in there.

The Hatchet

Today for reading we did some reading responses. Every afternoon our teacher reads us a bit of a novel. She organized us some questions and these are the main questions that were asked.

How did you react to Brian’s thoughts and actions? Do you think he is sensible or unreasonable? I thought Brian was brave because of what he went through trying to land a plane but actually crashed, surviving the wild with no food or shelter for 2 days that’s what I call bravery and courageous.

What lesson does Brian recall from Mr Pepich, his English teacher? How does that lesson help Brian as he sits beside the lake?Brian thinks about Mr Pepich words how he spoke “You are your most valuable asset”.

Sometimes Brian’s thoughts go back to an earlier time, when he was with his mother. What effect do these “breaks” have on the story. Once the flashback ended Brian screamed his lungs out until it went all silent.

Are Brian’s reactions to the pilot’s death and the crash realistic? Does Brian seem like a real thirteen-year-old boy?
Brian was shocked when the pilot died but he was also brave to. Once he died there was no sign of saying that he cried or did anything so I guess he'd have to be a 16 year old boy.

Life Jacket

Today we learnt how to put on life jackets for the afternoon, we worked in partners my partner was Eseki had to check if I was wearing the life jacket correct.A life jacket needs to be worn when you’re out in sea. Just slip the life jacket into your head and wear it. Once you've done that you tighten the straps and clip it as it it was a seat belt.

Plan& Prepare for a Bush walk

d.any other special features including a picture of the track to accompany it.

When you go on a Bush walk and on a really long bush walk you’ll have to be aware of the weather conditions and getting prepared.Just in case you get lost and can’t find your way back keep a friend updated about where and when your walking. It would be good to wear some good casual hiking shoes to wear when you go. If your gonna spend a night in the bush it would be a good idea to learn how to start a fire to keep yourself warm, and also keep a first aid kit packed in you bag. Keep your backpack as light as possible so it won’t stop you from walking to the destination. Walking on a nice and steady paste would be good and would save a lot of energy for later. Also keep a snack for later before you go starving hungry  on the way back home.

Non-Swimmers Graph

Today we are learning how to display information onto a Bar graph/Area graph. I bet when I go home my brain would be sizzling with a lot of statistics around my long term brain. The graph shows how many the students from my class were absent for swimming or couldn't be bothered about bringing there swim wear.
